The Eiffel Tower is an iron lattice tower located on the Champ de Mars in Paris, named after the engineer Gustave Eiffel, whose company designed and built the tower. Erected in 1889 as the entrance arch to the 1889 World's Fair, it has become both a global cultural icon of France. The Eiffel Tower was the inspiration for the Blackpool Tower in Blackpool, England. After visiting the Great Paris Exhibition in 1889, the town's mayor John Bickerstaffe commissioned the building of the tower, which has a very similar design and was completed 1894. The main differences are that the Blackpool Tower is approximately half the height of the Eiffel Tower and is not freestanding, the base being contained within buildings which house the Tower Circus. The tower was built in 1935, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Justo Rufino Barrios, who was President of Guatemala and instituted a number of reforms.

The 150 m high and approximately 600 metric ton radio tower was originally planned strictly as a transmitting tower, but later additions included a restaurant at a height of approximately 52 m, and observation deck at a height of approximately 125 m. San Alfonso del Mar – The World’s Largest Swimming Pool

San Alfonso del Mar is a resort located in Algarrobo, Chile frequently noted because of its 1,000-meter long, 19-acre outdoor pool, which holds a Guinness world record as the largest in the world. The resort’s large pool utilizes a technology developed by the Chilean company Crystal Lagoons, which uses water pumped from the Pacific Ocean, that is then filtered and treated for supply to the pool.

Nemo 33 – The World’s Deepest Swimming Pool

Nemo 33 is the deepest indoor swimming pool in the world. The pool is located in Brussels, Belgium. Its maximum depth is 34.5 metres (113 ft). It contains 2.78787 million litres of non-chlorinated, highly filtered spring water maintained at 30 °C (86 °F) and holds several simulated underwater caves at the 10 metres (33 ft) depth level. There are numerous underwater windows that allow outside visitors to look into the pools at various depths. The complex was designed by Belgian diving expert John Beernaerts as a multi-purpose diving instruction, recreational, and film production facility, 2004. [link]

The Joule Hotel, Dallas

The Joule Hotel is a five-star, 129-room boutique hotel developed by Headington Hotels. Located at 1530 Main Street, between Akard Street and Ervay Street, the building was constructed in 1927 as the Dallas National Bank Building, and was known later as the SPG Building. Positioned at the end of Stone Street Plaza, it is centralized in the Main Street District of downtown Dallas, Texas, and is one of two Gothic high-rises in the city, along with the Kirby Building. The Dallas National Bank completed construction of the office building in 1927.

It has garnered notoriety for its 10th floor pool that cantilevers eight feet over the easement below. The architect of the project was ARCHITEXAS (Architecture, Planning and Historic Preservation, Inc.) in Dallas. [link]

The Highest Suspension Bridge In Europe: ‘TITLIS Cliff Walk’

To mark the 100th anniversary of Titlis cableways on Mt.Titlis, one of central Switzerland's most popular ski and snowboard destinations, a more than 300-foot-long (100 meters) suspension bridge is being built at nearly 10,000 feet (3,000 meters) above sea level. Called the Titlis Cliff Walk, it is believed to be the highest suspension bridge in Europe. The bridge is expected to open Dec. 7, 2012.
